Lone Star Tae Kwon Do

About

At Lone Star Tae Kwon Do, we practice a traditional style of Tae Kwon Do known as Chung Do Kwan Tae Kwon Do. It is one of the original 5 kwans (schools) of TKD from Korea. This is a serious martial art that focuses on more than just self-defense. While you will learn self-defense, you will also gain improved focus, control, and discipline, as well as a great overall workout. It’s a great boost to your self-esteem as well!

WHAT IS TAE KWON DO?

Tae Kwon Do is a Korean martial art. The hands, feet, and other parts of the body are used as both offensive and defensive weapons. Tae Kwon Do is essentially discipline: discipline of the mind, the body, and the spirit. Korean Karate began more than 2000 years ago and includes many types of exercises, movements, and skills. Proficiency must be achieved in basics, forms, and free-style fighting. Basics are moves done with the hands, arms, feet, legs and combinations thereof. Forms are pre-planned patterns of movement derived from the basics. Free-style fighting, or sparring, is combat fighting among students applying various techniques. Lone Star Tae Kwon Do participates in non-contact sparring.

Benefits

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

The student learns the skills of self-defense by managing 5 tenets. They are: power, balance, control, speed, and focus. Each of these is emphasized in the practice and drills in which the student participates. Progress is made from the level of White Belt, or beginner, through the ranks of (in ascending order) Yellow, Green, Purple, Brown, and then Black Belt. The skills learned at the previous levels are enhanced upon and new ones are added at the next level. With each new level the powers of concentration, self-discipline, and timing become sharper and more developed as coordination improves. Advancement to the next level is achieved by demonstrating one’s proficiency of the requirements in their current level.
